This ceramic soup bowl was hand-painted and glazed by Rezgar Mamandi at Manna Pottery in Sterling, Virginia. Rows of small floral sprigs in green and red cover the white outside, and a glossy red glaze fills the inside. At 6 inches (15 cm) wide, it holds 20 oz, enough for soup, ice cream or a bowl of popcorn. It is one of a kind.
Slim vertical sprigs of green leaves and tiny red blossoms rise in rows around the bowl, with a thin red and black line at the rim. The pattern is painted freehand on a white ground, so the red inside stands out when you look down into the bowl. Because every sprig is painted by hand, small variations are part of the piece, not flaws.
