This black and white ceramic bowl is hand-designed and glazed by Rezgar Mamandi at Manna Pottery. It measures 7″ (17.8 cm) wide and 3.5″ (8.9 cm) tall. It is one of a kind and signed on the bottom by the artist.
We started painting when we were living in the caves. We decorated walls with geometric shapes, and animal figures were the first figures we ever painted. Hunting animals was the only story we had then. This bowl carries that old story on its walls: animal figures in white-outlined panels, set between bands of geometric patterns in black and white. Turquoise scale-like accents sit beside the animals, and a bright red glaze fills the inside. Because every line is painted by hand, small variations are part of the piece.
