This wide ceramic serving bowl was hand-painted and glazed by Rezgar Mamandi at Manna Pottery in Sterling, Virginia. Fine black and red lace-like arches fan out over a white glaze, with a mint-green flower in the center. At 8 inches (20 cm) wide, it is a classic bowl for soup, salad or pasta, and it is one of a kind.
Rows of pointed arches radiate from the center like the petals of a flower, each one drawn in fine black lines and finished with small red diamond accents. In the middle, a mint and turquoise flower with a dark star at its heart anchors the pattern. The outside carries a narrow band of the same lace work under the rim. Because every line is painted by hand, small variations are part of the piece, not flaws.
Is this a soup bowl or a serving bowl?
