This turquoise ceramic bowl was hand-painted and glazed by Rezgar Mamandi at Manna Pottery in Sterling, Virginia. A glossy turquoise glaze covers the wide, shallow shape, and a deep blue rosette opens in the center. At 8¾ inches (22 cm) wide and 19 oz, it works as an everyday bowl or a table piece.
In the center, rounded petals in deep blue and cobalt spread out like a flower, each one marked with a ring of tiny white dots and a green-gold center. Thin blue lines run out to the rim. Between the petals, small red and dark brown details in a traditional style fill the turquoise background. The outside carries a row of blue medallions. Because every petal and dot is painted by hand, small variations are part of the piece, not flaws.
