This black and white ceramic sauce bowl was hand-painted and glazed by Rezgar Mamandi at Manna Pottery in Sterling, Virginia. Bands of black and white pattern run around the outside, with a glossy red glaze inside. At 3⅝ inches (9.2 cm) wide, it is a one-of-a-kind sauce bowl for chips and salsa.
Narrow bands are painted freehand around the bowl in black on white: arrows, zigzags and rows of small triangles. A band of red diamond shapes adds a spark of color against the black and white. The inside is a deep red glaze. Because every line is painted by hand, small variations are part of the piece, not flaws.
