This colorful ceramic soup bowl was hand-painted and glazed by Rezgar Mamandi at Manna Pottery in Sterling, Virginia. A cobalt blue rim frames rows of tiny painted flowers in green, yellow, red and blue, and a glossy red glaze fills the inside. At 6 inches (15 cm) wide, it holds 20 oz, enough for soup, ice cream or popcorn. It is one of a kind.
Rows of small round blossoms in green, yellow, red and blue cover the outside of the bowl like a garden in bloom, with bands of blue and yellow near the foot. A cobalt blue rim sits above them, and the deep red inside makes the colors stand out. Because every flower is painted by hand, small variations are part of the piece, not flaws.
